LIFE UPDATE | trying to feel Christmassy

Pinterest
It's finally December which means that Christmas is only around the corner.  I've already done the majority of my shopping for everyone's presents but will inevitabily buy so much more than planned, which is fine, I like to spoil people especially at this time of year.  We've put the tree up and already started watching Christmas films but for some reason, I'm not feeling 100% in the Christmas spirit - I just don't think it's cold enough yet!  There's no frost, I can go out in only a jumper and scarf and be comfortable.  This morning when I was driving to uni, Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade came on, and I don't know whether it was the fact that it was 7:50 in the morning, but it felt so in your face, it was too Christmassy.  Maybe a bit of Mariah or Buble would have sufficed.

I'm going to London in two weeks to go to a load of art galleries and exhibitions, and mainly try to resist going to do even more Christmas shopping.  I've never been there at this time of the year so I'm really looking forward to experiencing it, I will definitely not be able to resist going to the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland!  I'm also excited to see what the Tate Modern has on for their Christmas market.  Maybe it will just be the one exhibition and a few quick gallery visits..

My sister, Jasmine, turned 14 yesterday so we celebrated that over the weekend and obviously on her actual birthday which was a lot of fun.  Because it's on December 1st so we always put the tree up on the same day too, so that was really exciting & puts you in the Christmas spirit a lot more!  So these past couple of weeks have consisted of shopping, drinking too many Costa Christmas drinks, and eating too many carbs - exactly what this time of year is all about.

Undeniably the best Christmas film

Necessary Costa pit stops while shopping

Most beautiful shop bought cake there is

Carb-alicious TGI Friday's with Monique

Next week I'm going to 2 gigs; Don Broco in Nottingham and Lower Than Atlantis in Birmingham which I am so unbearably excited for!!  Then obviously, I have the trip to London coming up and most exciting of all, breaking up from uni in two weeks for almost a month off - three weeks of no alarms!  I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo in the next couple of weeks too, I haven't had Marie inflict her pain on me a while and I want some new pretties.

LIFE UPDATE | Christmas shopping & New York trip

So the most amazing thing that's happening at the minute is that I'm going to New York in February!  It's with my university, and the majority is paid by a programme we have called DMU Global so it has only cost me £235 which is unbelievable - for 5 days in New York and 2 days travelling.  We go the week before my 22nd birthday so hopefully will be getting dollars from my family to buy myself loads of presents from Bath & Body Works!!!!  I'm so unbearably excited!!  I wish I was going with my boyfriend and sisters though, that would make it even more perfect.  We have spoke about going to Disneyland Paris in January though.

Image from Google Images but can't find the link, don't sue me

A lot of my time recently has been taken up by planning and buying things for Christmas.  I want my sisters to have a really nice time so I'm trying to make it the best I can.  My sister, Jasmine, has a birthday at the start of December, as well as my boyfriend's birthday so this time of the year is so expensive for me.  But I don't mind, I love buying people presents.  Christmas is the best though, I can't wait to put the tree up and decorate the house - I've done loads of present shopping, about half of it is done and wrapped up, I want to be really prepared this year!
I went to see Mockingjay part 2 last night and it's ruined me.  I knew what was coming because of the book but I didn't think I would be as emotional as I was, at really unexpected parts as well!  I want to go and see Spectre and am being dragged to see Star Wars too - a load of films I should probably watch beforehand.
Only three more weeks of being busy at uni and then three weeks off for Christmas and New Year!!!  I have this upcoming weekend off work as well so can finally have a lie in and I've never been so excited.

MONTHLY FAVOURITES | October 2015

With October being one of my favourite months of the year, I've got lots of Autumnal favourites so I hope you enjoy reading about them!  I've been really busy this past month, I have next to no time to myself so I've been enjoying even the smallest of things this month which takes my mind off of all the uni work I'm doing.  Sorry this post is a little late, I've not had time to even think about blogging.

REVIEW | PetShop.co.uk dog treats

This post is really different to what I would usually blog about but I was lucky enough to be sent a package of goodies for my pooch from the PetShop.co.uk!  They asked me what sort of food my dog eats, if she has any dietary needs or allergies so they knew exactly what she would like/what she would enjoy eating.  The package came one day after I was told that it had been dispatched so they are super quick with delivery which is an added bonus to the great products and prices.

WINTER BOOT INSPO | ASOS

With the air getting more cold and crisp, I'm getting more and more excited for Winter.  As much as I love Autumn, Winter is the season where you can really wrap up warm and get all snuggled, and best of all CHRISTMAS!!!  With that in mind, I took to ASOS to look for some ankle boot inspiration - there are so many gorgeous pairs I've got my eye on but I managed to narrow it down to five pairs of boots with a price range starting at £160.00 to £34.00.

DOC MARTENS £115.00
I had a pair of Docs a couple of years ago and they were the comfiest boots ever, and the warmest!!  They go above the ankle so if you roll your jeans up then it can be uncomfortable so you either have to roll them up more or not at all.  I love the effect on these boots, they're suede as well so you will have to be careful with the wet weather but other than that, they are gorgeous!

I have always wanted a pair of Kurt Geiger's and it's killing me now I've found these beauties!!!  I love the light camel colour, they go really well with the blue jeans pictures.  I really love the heel on them as well - I like the effect and the height.  Just perfection.  Again, these are suede so you need to be careful in the rain/snow/puddle jumping.

Black boots are a staple for A/W and I love this take on the classic - the faux leather gives them a beautiful finish against the wooden clog style heel.  These are perfect for the season and will be looking out for some in the high street - if I can't find any similar ones then I may just have to cave and get these ones.

Another gorgeous take on the black boot classic - I love the glossy snake effect against the matte black.  The block heel is gorgeous - I have wanted a pair of snake effect boots since this time last year so I think I may have to get some this year.  I've never been one for having loads of pairs of boots, I've only got one at the minute which I bought from Primark (you can see them in my Primark haul), and I've worn them to death recently so need to invest in a new pair!

I LOVE LEOPARD PRINT! I know a lot of people think it's tacky but I just love it, especially with shoes and bags.  I definitely am going to be on the look out for this pair of beauties - the gold detailing on the heel adds a sense of class to the shoe, especially with the suede finish.  The 60s/70s style has been a favourite of mine so I am loving this pair.

Let me know if you know of any bargains for the upcoming cold months!

LIFE UPDATE | I've become a latte addict

I have been sooo busy since I've been back at uni, I've not even had time to think about writing a new blog post!  I thought I would just share with you what I've been up to this past week - I commute to university four days a week, have work placement once a week and go to work at the weekends so I am the busiest bee around.

SKIN CARE | favourite products, daily routines

I thought I would share with you what I use on a daily basis in the morning and evening for my skin.  I have oily to combination skin and can be prone to getting spots, especially if I skip out on any of these products!  All of the products listed, I've used for ages and have had the current ones for months because they all last so long and do the perfect job.

EXFOLIATORS

I alternate between these two scrubs, they are both just as good as each other - deep cleansing and leave my skin feeling really fresh and clear it up so well!  The St Ives scrub comes in a few other types, this one is the 'fresh skin' scrub but I also use the 'blemish fighting' scrub when I break out but I have used it all up - and as you can see, have almost drained these ones too.

CLEANSER

You can tell from all of these products how much I use them because they're all basically empty!!  I love using this for taking make up off.  If I wear a lot of make up, for example on a night out or to a meal, I will use face wipes to take off the bulk amount then this to make sure it's all off.  I used to be relluctant to use this on my eyes because I hate getting anything in my eyes but to be honest, you don't even notice!  It's so nice and makes me feel so clean before I've even washed my face.  You get a lot for your money, I think this bottle lasted me about 3 months, and I've just bought a mini travel one for £1.00 from Asda because it's just handy to have.  It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or oily so is perfect for any skin type, and definitely works well with mine.

FACE MASKS

Quick Fix face masks are the best! They do such a vast variety that you can easily find the perfect one for your skin type, and they do different kinds of face masks like mud masks, peel masks and self heating ones.  I use one a week, usually the mud mask but if I can't be bothered then the peel one because it's so much less hassle to take off.  You can get a decent amount out of each bottle, it claims 10 per bottle so having one face mask a week means one bottle lasts over 2 months! Definitely worth the money.  I want to try some Lush face masks but because they only last a week, I don't see the point.

MOISTURISERS

I love both of these moisturisers!  Garnier is such a good brand for me and my skin!  I use the Moisture Matte moisturiser in the daytime; it's mattifying but not drying, it hydrates my skin and makes me feel more awake in the mornings.  I use the Night Care moisturiser after I've exfoliated and it makes my skin look a lot more glowly and healthier - I can only use this when my skin is really good though, I find it can clog my pores up and cause break outs sometimes but I think that's just because of my skin type..  It would be great for those of you with dry skin.  Garnier have a really good collection of different moisturisers for all skin types so if you're looking for a new, decent moisturiser then I would definitely try one out.

GOOD FOR BREAKOUTS

This stuff is a life saver!! Definitely one of my holy grail products.  There are two ends - one for the day time, and one for over night.  The thicker one (over night) is what I mainly use, if I feel a break out coming on then I will apply this to the blemish and come the morning, it's completely gone.  It works really well on spots that have already come through as well.  I do use the lighter (day time) one occasionally too, especially if I have make up free days, it dries too so you can wear it underneath make up once it has worked it's way into your skin.

I almost always buy my skin care products from Boots and at the minute they have a 3 for 2 offer on skin care so you can get a lot of good stuff for your money - everything I've mentioned!!  I do think it is important to have some sort of routine with skin care because taking care of your skin is important and if you don't, you will soon regret it.

Do you have any holy grail skin care products?

PRODUCT REVIEW | Forever Living

I was lucky enough to try out some of Forever Living's skin care products thanks to Nichola! I used all of the products on one of my many pamper nights and I was so impressed by them all.

SKINCARE

I used this instead of the usual Garnier Micellar water and it was just as good!  It, and all of the other products, smell really lovely and fresh - just generally like they will do good for you skin.  It left my face make-up-less and feeling really soft.

Aloe Lotion - £12.23

This product is suibtable for all over the body and I definitely would use this on a daily basis!  It felt so good on my face, it's not thick or watery, it's the perfect texture and works as a moisturiser, toner, conditioner, emollient, skin pH balancer and obviously as a lotion so definitely worth the money!

Forever Aloe Scrub - £13.27

I used this scrub instead of my usual exfoliators and it was amazing! It wasn't like a facial scrub that I've used before - the textured beads sort of disintergrated as you scrub which I really liked.  Again, it left my face feeling fresh and clean, another product I would purchase!

Because I was given quite a few lotions and moisturisers, I applied each one to a different part of my body, and I put this on my forearms.  I tend to be able to tell how hydrating cremes/moisturisers are when I put them on parts of my body where I have tattoos, because they look so much bolder, and this definitley made them more lively! After a few minutes of it sinking into my skin, it felt quite matte which is another characteristic that I love.  I would consider using this on a weekly basis if I had dry, thirsty skin but it is quite pricey for a small bottle which is the only downfall, but as a product it's gorgeous.

Aloe Vera Gelly - £12.23

This thick gel left my skin feeling incredibly smooth and soft!!  I can't fault this at all and would definitely buy it.  Apparently it's really good to soothe skin irritations and I think it really would - at first it made my arm feeling quite cold which was a really interesting sensation, in the best way.  I can't stop stroking my skin where I applied it!

Another moisturising product with a matte finish which left my skin feeling so silky soft!  This lotion is much thicker than the previous two but doesn't feel heavy at all.  I would use this on a daily basis on my hands and face - before applying make up or when having a make up free day.  If you're someone who loves a good hand cream then I would strongly recommend this lotion.

I think this product is kind of like a toothpaste I'm not sure.. But I just put a tiny bit on my finger and rubbed it on my front teeth, bottom and top (I have a smilie piercing and got it all stuck in it, whoops!).  It really freshened my breath and teeth felt like how they do after I've been brushing them for 2-3 minutes!  I think you could easily get away with just using it how I did, you could pop it in your bag and use it to freshen your mouth throughout the day, and for only £7.03, you get a lot for your money if you use it this way.
HAIR CARE

Aloe-Jojoba Shampoo - £14.72

Many of the products I used are concentrated so you don't need to use a lot, and when it comes to shampoo, I usually have to use a tonne, but for this one I used a little squirt about as big as a 50p coin and it was more than enough!  It's meant to strengthen hair and nourish your scalp and honestly after one wash, I could feel the difference.  Although it's a bit on the pricey side, you only need to use a tiny amount so I think it's worth the money, especially if you're like me and have really brittle hair.

 Aloe-Jojoba Conditioning Rinse - £14.72

Another product that I can't fault - it left my hair feeling so healthy after only using a tiny amount!  I feel like I just keep repeating myself haha.  Basically after using all of the products, they left my hair and skin feeling nourished, and kind of made me feel quite calm.  After trying the Forever Living products, I am considering investing in a few of them that I feel I would use on a day-to-day basis but if you're looking for products on a budget then unfortunately you may have to miss out on these, unless you want to treat yourself.  Overall lovely products and I can't thank Nic enough for letting me try them!  I also had a look through the product books as well and the make up looks really good and affordable, apparently it's been compared to brands like MAC so definitely worth a try.

MONTHLY FAVOURITES | August 2015

Hiiii, I thought I would start doing monthly favourites at the end of each month because I love reading about what people have been enjoying so I thought I would share what I have been really loving from lipstick to DVD boxsets.

FASHION
Wrap front jogger trousers - Topshop - £30

I bought these last month but am still loving them, they're really comfy but look really smart!  I first got some monochrome pattern ones and loved them but was quite restricted when it came to which top to wear with them, so black ones were the next obvious choice because they're so versatile.  They come up quite high waisted above my belly button so you can wear crop tops with them.

'70s floral crinkle cami - Topshop - £16

I love this top so much!!  It goes really well with any style and colour of jeans and a denim or a leather jacket, so you can wear it casual or smarten it up a bit.  I find this style of top really flattering which is sometimes difficult because my chest is bigger than my waist so it can be difficult to find tops that play to my advantage if you know what I mean.  I love the crinkle style, it adds a little extra something - and means you don't have to iron it.

BEAUTY & SKINCARE

 MAC - Chili - £15.50

I hand't worn a red lipstick for ages and this shade is so gorgeous, it's a mixture of orange, red and brown and I think it compliments my skin tone really nicely.  I wear it a lot when I go out on nights out or if my eye make up is a bit boring.  It's a matte finish as well and unlike I find with velvet teddy, this one isn't as drying.  I wear it with a natural collection brownish lip liner and it seems to work!

I've always been a fan of some of the MUA make up in Superdrug, especially the eyeshadow palettes.  I fell in love with the purple and silver shadows in this one and for £4 it is an absolute steal.  The description on the back describes the palette as consisting of "perfect plums and deep metallics" and they definitely do not disappoint.  I have green eyes and never would have thought purple eye shadow would suit me - I only use a small amount so it's quite subtle but still really pretty.

You can see how much I've been using this bottle because it's pretty much empty! I bought it about a month ago so it definitely lasts and is more than worth the money, you can also get small travel bottles for around £1.  I use cleansing wipes to get the bulk of my make up off then go over my whole face with this on cotton pads to make sure it's all off before exfoliating.  It works really well and I prefer it to the thicker, cleansing lotions because I find them too heavy for my skin.

Escada - Turquoise Summer - £35 (when I bought it in Boots)

I have been wearing this every single day for almost two months now, it's such a sweet fragrance and absolutely perfect for summer!  I need to find something a bit more musky for the colder seasons so if anyone knows of any then let me know!!  I love the bottle of this perfume as well, it kind of explains the scent, it's just really lovely.

MUSIC

Don Broco are one of my all time favourite bands so naturally when their new album was released a few weeks ago, I've had it on repeat since.  I've been to see them a couple of times and recently saw them perform - and met them!!! - in Birmingham and it was incredible!  Small gigs are so much better than arenas/festivals; I love all kinds of live music but the smaller ones are just so much more intimate and sweaty, mmm.  If you've never heard of them or haven't listened to this album then you definitely should, I can't get enough.

TV & FILM

Game of Thrones (seasons 1-4 on DVD (£42.99), season 5 on Amazon Instant (£17.99 est.))

For literally the past two years I've been asked constantly whether I watch Game of Thrones and I could never be bothered to try and catch up, but while me and Josh were on holiday, he read the first book and convinced me to go halves on the box set.  After the first episode, I couldn't stop watching it! So much happens and it's so brilliant!!!  After we finished watching the first four seasons in around two and a half weeks, we watched the fifth on Amazon Instant Video and now I don't know what to do with myself.  If you don't watch it or don't think it's for you, give it a try (if you're old enough, it's all about killing and tits).  I honestly love it so much, Tyrion and Daenerys are my favourite characters but I don't want to get too attatched because everyone dies.

I don't really have a favourite film this month because I've not had time to watch any, all of my time has been dedicated to GoT!  We did go and watch Sinister 2 though and it was really good so I'd recommend that if you're a fan of horrors/thrillers and have seen the first one!

I'm already really excited for the next few months and for what my favourites might be, I love Autumn and Winter so I'm just looking forward to the colours and the over sized jumpers!  September is a really busy month for me: my driving test is coming up, I'm going to Centre Parcs, getting half of my sleeve finished, and starting my third year of uni!!  All very exciting/nerve-racking.

HAUL | Lush, Oxford Street store

While I was in London, I obviously paid a visit to the Oxford Street Lush store!  It's so huge and smells incredbile.  I bought myself a couple of bath products as well as some bits for my sisters and overall spent £53.  For myself I got one bath bomb, one bubble bar, one bubbleroon and three bath oils, all of which are supposed to be really comforting and relaxing - definitely what I need.

First up is the yoga bomb bath bomb which cost £3.95.  I am so bad at describing smells!.. It smells like I would definitely fall to sleep in the bath after using this.  'If you long for calm and contemplation, drop this layered bomb in the bath.  As the mesmerising colours unfurl, woody olibanum and ho wood create an atmosphere of deep relaxation.'

The bubblebar I got is called milky bath and cost £3.75.  It has lots of cocoa butter and actual skimmed milk in it!  It's supposed to be really comforting and I can tell from the smell that it will be, it smells like I want to eat it basically, and that's comforting.

Next up is the Yuzu & Cocoa bubbleroon which cost £3.65.  I've never had a bubbleroon before and I think they're just like bubble bars?  It contains coconut oil and shea butter so I pressume it's going to leave your skin really soft and smooth.  According to the label it smells like chocolate orange - one of my favourite types of chocolate, and it definitely does so that's a massive bonus for me.  This one is also self-preserving and suibtable for vegans.

I knew that the Oxford Street Lush sold tiny little balls of bath oils for only £2 each so I was really exciting when I saw them all on display.  A lot of them are really glittery and I'm not a fan of the mess so I just thought I would try 3 and pick some more up in a few months when I go back, and hopefully there will be cool Halloween/Bonfire night ones!
The first one, below, is the Floating Island Melt which when I first picked up and had a sniff, thought it smelled like white chocolate that you have at Christmas time.. but according to the label it's lemon and sandalwood?!  I just really love the smell of this one, and it's so slippery, I could barely hold it to take a photo!  So I'm hoping it's going to make my bath water nice and oily and leave my skin feeling amazing.

Shark Infested Custard Melt got my attention purely because of the name - sharks are cool and I love custard.  It's packed with lots of nourishing butters so is great if you want your skin feeling revived and soft.  It smells really vanilla-y and again is really slippery to hold.  The little 'shark fin' sticking out the top is so cute as well - and made from melon paper!

My last product is the Lime Pastille Bath Melt.  Lime scented bath products are one of my favourites, they're so zesty and fresh and great for showers/baths in the morning or after going to the gym.  This bath oil is definitely one for lime lovers, it's a really strong scent made from lime and lemon oils as well as extra virgin coconut oil.  It is supposed to turn the bath water a 'lustrous green' as well, I think it might be one that you will have to clean up afterwards too because it's quite shimmery but it's worth it for the smell!

I do like the moisturisers and things that Lush sell but I think some are way too pricey and I can get something else that I love like Soap & Glory for so much cheaper.  For anyone who is interested, I also bought the Intergalatic bath bomb, 2 Frozen bath bombs, 2 of the Experimenter bath bombs, the Skydancer bath bomb, the Guardian of the Forest bath bomb, the Big Bang bubble bar and the purple Fun, which I got for my sisters.  Jorja used her Frozen bath bomb and it turned the bath water this amazing blue colour which had glitter in and obviously smelled amazing.
If you're in London or planning on going, and you love Lush or have never been, I would definitely suggest going in!  If you get the tube to Oxford Circus, it's easy to find, just follow the smell.

MINI LONDON BREAK | London Dungeons, Lush & more!

DAY ONE
Me, my boyfriend and two younger sisters did so much exploring on the first day.  We went to see Buckingham Palace, the houses of parliment, the London eye and did a bit of Oxford Street shopping!  I've been to London a couple of times in the past few years so I had already done a lot of sight seeing but I still think it's brilliant.  We explored parts of London that I had never really ventured into much like South Bank where there are loads of edgey food outlets, art galleries and just some cool scenic areas.  At the Hayward art gallery, there is an exhibition on at the minute by Carsten Holler which seems like a lot of fun to go and see and I wish I had!  One of my favourite parts of the day was spending an ungodly amount of money in the Oxford Street Lush store - it's absolutely massive and you can smell it as soon as you get out from the underground (there will be a little haul up soon!).  In the evening we went to the London Dungeons and it was so much fun!  I must admit, I got so scared at some points but overall it was a fantastic experience and I would definitely recommend it if you're going to London.  We learned about all sorts of London history, but my favourite story was the Jack the Ripper one.  My sisters, Jorja, 10, and Jasmine, 13, seemed to really enjoy it as well so if you have children and think that it might be too scary then don't be worried!  At the end of the tour, is a free falling drop ride and I think I have been less nervous on rides at Alton Towers!  They make it seem as if you are in the gallows waiting for your imminent death and it honestly felt like it.  You get your photo taken which I had no idea about and had to buy it because it is hilarious.  It was a lot of fun and I would love to go and see it again.  We finished the day with an absolute monster Pizza Express which went down an absolute treat - I had the american hot pizza simply because it's the best one.

DAY TWO
To start our second and final day, we had an all you can eat breakfast at the Premier Inn we stayed in, in St Pancras and oh my god it was so good!  So much bacon!  The hotel was really good as well, I booked in advance so managed to save a bit of money and it wasn't too expensive either - right next to the St Pancras and Euston tube and train stations, it's a really good location.  After checking out, we headed to South Kensington to go to the Natural History Museum.  We didn't stay for too long because we were all complaining that our feet were hurting and wishing we had wore crocs, ha!  But what we did see of it, was really cool and really interactive so it seemed to keep the smaller children busy.   The best part was probably the gift shop which was filled with loads of different science-y bits from mineral gems to flavoured chocolate bars.  I think there were more than one gift shop because the one we went in was called 'the earth gift shop.'  While we were in South Kensington, we were going to look for one of the Hummingbird Bakery outlets but we were too exhausted so that's another regret!  I found them on Instagram and have always desperately wanted some of their red velvet cake.  We took a quick trip back to where all the shops are to go to Hamley's where again, I spent too much money.  I let my sisters have so much money each so they decided to put together what they had left to buy some cool little things to play with at home, one being connetic sand and the other some kind of make your own snow..  They interacted with both in the shop and me and my boyfriend also thought that they were really cool!  After this we were pretty much done for the day, we went to a pub for a long lunch while waiting for the train home where I had a posh fish finger sandwich, then shared a brownie pizza dessert with my boyfriend, Josh, and Jasmine while Jorja had the most amazing smelling warm brownie.

Overall, I spent quite a bit of money so if you're planning on going to London, save up!  The tube cost me £24 a day for an adult ticket (£12) and 2 child tickets (£6 each) and these were for zones 1-6.  I would also put comfort first over fashion because my feet were - and still are - hurting so much.  And most of all, plan where you're going to go and what you want to do, make an itinerary of what tube stations and lines you need to go on to get to these places, and allow yourself time to get lost every now and again.  I think me and Josh are going to go back in a few months to do more galleries and things, and I might take my sisters again to go to Madame Tussaud's - another must see!
