LIFE UPDATE | trying to feel Christmassy

Pinterest
It's finally December which means that Christmas is only around the corner.  I've already done the majority of my shopping for everyone's presents but will inevitabily buy so much more than planned, which is fine, I like to spoil people especially at this time of year.  We've put the tree up and already started watching Christmas films but for some reason, I'm not feeling 100% in the Christmas spirit - I just don't think it's cold enough yet!  There's no frost, I can go out in only a jumper and scarf and be comfortable.  This morning when I was driving to uni, Merry Christmas Everybody by Slade came on, and I don't know whether it was the fact that it was 7:50 in the morning, but it felt so in your face, it was too Christmassy.  Maybe a bit of Mariah or Buble would have sufficed.

I'm going to London in two weeks to go to a load of art galleries and exhibitions, and mainly try to resist going to do even more Christmas shopping.  I've never been there at this time of the year so I'm really looking forward to experiencing it, I will definitely not be able to resist going to the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland!  I'm also excited to see what the Tate Modern has on for their Christmas market.  Maybe it will just be the one exhibition and a few quick gallery visits..

My sister, Jasmine, turned 14 yesterday so we celebrated that over the weekend and obviously on her actual birthday which was a lot of fun.  Because it's on December 1st so we always put the tree up on the same day too, so that was really exciting & puts you in the Christmas spirit a lot more!  So these past couple of weeks have consisted of shopping, drinking too many Costa Christmas drinks, and eating too many carbs - exactly what this time of year is all about.

Undeniably the best Christmas film

Necessary Costa pit stops while shopping

Most beautiful shop bought cake there is

Carb-alicious TGI Friday's with Monique

Next week I'm going to 2 gigs; Don Broco in Nottingham and Lower Than Atlantis in Birmingham which I am so unbearably excited for!!  Then obviously, I have the trip to London coming up and most exciting of all, breaking up from uni in two weeks for almost a month off - three weeks of no alarms!  I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo in the next couple of weeks too, I haven't had Marie inflict her pain on me a while and I want some new pretties.

LIFE UPDATE | Christmas shopping & New York trip

So the most amazing thing that's happening at the minute is that I'm going to New York in February!  It's with my university, and the majority is paid by a programme we have called DMU Global so it has only cost me £235 which is unbelievable - for 5 days in New York and 2 days travelling.  We go the week before my 22nd birthday so hopefully will be getting dollars from my family to buy myself loads of presents from Bath & Body Works!!!!  I'm so unbearably excited!!  I wish I was going with my boyfriend and sisters though, that would make it even more perfect.  We have spoke about going to Disneyland Paris in January though.

Image from Google Images but can't find the link, don't sue me

A lot of my time recently has been taken up by planning and buying things for Christmas.  I want my sisters to have a really nice time so I'm trying to make it the best I can.  My sister, Jasmine, has a birthday at the start of December, as well as my boyfriend's birthday so this time of the year is so expensive for me.  But I don't mind, I love buying people presents.  Christmas is the best though, I can't wait to put the tree up and decorate the house - I've done loads of present shopping, about half of it is done and wrapped up, I want to be really prepared this year!
I went to see Mockingjay part 2 last night and it's ruined me.  I knew what was coming because of the book but I didn't think I would be as emotional as I was, at really unexpected parts as well!  I want to go and see Spectre and am being dragged to see Star Wars too - a load of films I should probably watch beforehand.
Only three more weeks of being busy at uni and then three weeks off for Christmas and New Year!!!  I have this upcoming weekend off work as well so can finally have a lie in and I've never been so excited.

Thanks for reading!

CHRISTMAS 2015 WISHLIST

I thought I would share with you a load of different things I am pining over for Christmas this year.  I'm not materialistic or anything, I just think that all of these products are lovely and if anyone wants to get me any then be my guest.  I will gladly get them for myself after Christmas if my family and friends don't love me enough.

MONTHLY FAVOURITES | October 2015

With October being one of my favourite months of the year, I've got lots of Autumnal favourites so I hope you enjoy reading about them!  I've been really busy this past month, I have next to no time to myself so I've been enjoying even the smallest of things this month which takes my mind off of all the uni work I'm doing.  Sorry this post is a little late, I've not had time to even think about blogging.

THE FALL/AUTUMN TAG | Jaclyn Hill

I watched Jaclyn Hill's Fall Tag on YouTube the other day and thought it was such a good tag!!  As I've mentioned in pretty much every post, I love Autumn, it's my favourite season so naturally I instantly wanted to do this tag, and since September 1st came around, I've been all about the oversized jumpers and hot chocolates (eventhough it's not even been that cold yet).  I know there are a lot of Autumn/Fall tags out there but this is the most recent one I've seen.

SKIN CARE | favourite products, daily routines

I thought I would share with you what I use on a daily basis in the morning and evening for my skin.  I have oily to combination skin and can be prone to getting spots, especially if I skip out on any of these products!  All of the products listed, I've used for ages and have had the current ones for months because they all last so long and do the perfect job.

EXFOLIATORS

I alternate between these two scrubs, they are both just as good as each other - deep cleansing and leave my skin feeling really fresh and clear it up so well!  The St Ives scrub comes in a few other types, this one is the 'fresh skin' scrub but I also use the 'blemish fighting' scrub when I break out but I have used it all up - and as you can see, have almost drained these ones too.

CLEANSER

You can tell from all of these products how much I use them because they're all basically empty!!  I love using this for taking make up off.  If I wear a lot of make up, for example on a night out or to a meal, I will use face wipes to take off the bulk amount then this to make sure it's all off.  I used to be relluctant to use this on my eyes because I hate getting anything in my eyes but to be honest, you don't even notice!  It's so nice and makes me feel so clean before I've even washed my face.  You get a lot for your money, I think this bottle lasted me about 3 months, and I've just bought a mini travel one for £1.00 from Asda because it's just handy to have.  It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry or oily so is perfect for any skin type, and definitely works well with mine.

FACE MASKS

Quick Fix face masks are the best! They do such a vast variety that you can easily find the perfect one for your skin type, and they do different kinds of face masks like mud masks, peel masks and self heating ones.  I use one a week, usually the mud mask but if I can't be bothered then the peel one because it's so much less hassle to take off.  You can get a decent amount out of each bottle, it claims 10 per bottle so having one face mask a week means one bottle lasts over 2 months! Definitely worth the money.  I want to try some Lush face masks but because they only last a week, I don't see the point.

MOISTURISERS

I love both of these moisturisers!  Garnier is such a good brand for me and my skin!  I use the Moisture Matte moisturiser in the daytime; it's mattifying but not drying, it hydrates my skin and makes me feel more awake in the mornings.  I use the Night Care moisturiser after I've exfoliated and it makes my skin look a lot more glowly and healthier - I can only use this when my skin is really good though, I find it can clog my pores up and cause break outs sometimes but I think that's just because of my skin type..  It would be great for those of you with dry skin.  Garnier have a really good collection of different moisturisers for all skin types so if you're looking for a new, decent moisturiser then I would definitely try one out.

GOOD FOR BREAKOUTS

This stuff is a life saver!! Definitely one of my holy grail products.  There are two ends - one for the day time, and one for over night.  The thicker one (over night) is what I mainly use, if I feel a break out coming on then I will apply this to the blemish and come the morning, it's completely gone.  It works really well on spots that have already come through as well.  I do use the lighter (day time) one occasionally too, especially if I have make up free days, it dries too so you can wear it underneath make up once it has worked it's way into your skin.

I almost always buy my skin care products from Boots and at the minute they have a 3 for 2 offer on skin care so you can get a lot of good stuff for your money - everything I've mentioned!!  I do think it is important to have some sort of routine with skin care because taking care of your skin is important and if you don't, you will soon regret it.

Do you have any holy grail skin care products?

BAKING | Simple vanilla cupcakes

I really love baking on lazy days and today being one of those days, I decided to make some really simple vanilla cupcakes for my friend's birthday and thought I would show you how to make them because they're so easy and taste delicious!!

INGREDIENTS

  • 110g self raising flour
  • 110g softened butter or margerine
  • 110g golden caster sugar
  • 2 medium free range eggs
  • 1tsp of vanilla essence
  • 1tbsp of milk
 METHOD

1. Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 4 and fill a cake tin with any cupcake cases of your choice.  I used a couple muffin cases to make bigger cakes, as well as 8 smaller cupcake cases - the ingredients make up to 12 standard sized cakes.

2. Cream butter and sugar together until the mixture looks like the photo below.  It's a lot easier if you use room temp. butter!

3.  Beat in the two eggs (avoiding all the egg shell!!) followed by folding in the flour bit by bit.  If the mixture looks lumpy then add a bit of milk until the mixture is of a dropping consistency.  Then you can add the vanilla extract - I used Madagascan vanilla which is much thicker and sweeter, you can use whatever extract you want.  I used a spoon smaller than a tea spoon and put two of those in.

4.  Now you can spoon the mixture into the cupcake cases.  To do it equally, I just use a tablespoon and half fill the cases.  To make these cakes a little different, I melted some milk chocolate over boiling water and spooned a little into each cake and swirled it around to create a marble effect (pictured below).  Bake for around 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.  I check the cases by putting a knife in them, and if it comes out almost clean, I take them out; the cakes are so hot that they keep cooking once they're out the oven, so you don't want to dry them out.

5.  Once the cakes are completely cool, you can decorate them!  You can use anything from royal icing to a simple sprinkle of icing sugar.  I used a basic buttercream using 50g of softened butter, 100g of icing sugar and half a tube of purple food colouring gel.

6.  To make the buttercream, I cream the butter until pale then gradually sift in the icing sugar until thick and you can create stiff, self-holding peaks.  I added quite a bit of food colouring to make the icing colourful - with the gel, you would need to use the whole tube to get it really bold.

7.  Using a piping bag, I piped on the icing to the four larger cakes and used some pre-made chocolate fudge icing on the others because it's the only stuff my sister eats..  I also added mini white chocolate stars, mini white pearls and silver balls!  You can add anything you want to fit any occassion or personal taste.

These cakes are the easiest to make, you don't really have to think about what you're doing because it's difficult to make a mistake.  You can make them look really fun or formal.  I didn't get this recipie from anywhere, it's just how I've always made them!
Do you have any cupcake recipies?

LOVE HATE TAG

I was tagged by my fabulous friend, Abiee to do the Love/Hate Tag so thanks ugly! You just have to write about 10 things you love and 10 things you hate and then tag other bloggers.

LOVE

Music | I love listening to all kinds of music - I like loud music with loads of instruments, especially bass guitar and drums, but I like pretty much all kinds of music.  I love going to gigs, music is so much better live. My favourite bands are Paramore, Don Broco, Pvris and Lower Than Atlantis.
Dogs | Need I say anything? Dogs are the best animals and better than some humans. Every time I see a dog, I need to resist the urge of going and making friends with it. My dog is the best though.
Long journeys | I love long train journeys especially, and even more when I'm on my own.. I can just sit there and listen to my iPod or read and have some down time to myself.
Maltesers  | The best chocolate/snack ever!!! I could live on Maltesers. I like to do that thing where you lie back or put your head back, rest one on your lips then blow it up so it floats in the air and try and catch it in your mouth..
Make up | I think I have an addiction to buying make up. I really like to experiment with eye shadows, lip colours and eye liner techniques. You get to find out more about what suits you and what you can do when you spend some time playing around with all your products.
Art | Doing a degree in Fine Art is slowly making me lose the will to live but I do still enjoy it. It frustrates me when people question why I do it and ask me stupid questions like "DRAW A PORTRAIT OF ME" no. I like going to galleries and exhibitions and obviously making my own work. The thought process is the most exciting.
Candles | Something else I'm addicted to buying. You can never have too many candles!! I love different ones and different times of the year, so right now I like musky sort of smells like spiced apple and fig, and a few months ago I was loving lime ones!  I'm currently on the hunt for a pumpkin/caramel/halloween smelling candle so if you know of one, tell me your secrets.
Game of Thrones | The TV series, not the books.  I just can't read a book the size of 3 bricks so I'm never going to read them.  I love the show so much, me and my boyfriend watched the whole first series in one day, from the minute we woke up until we went to sleep!  It usually takes a good few episodes of something for me to really get into it but after the first one, I was fully hooked.  I'm now completely caught up and have nothing to do with my life until season 6.  I won't talk about the plots or storylines incase anyone hasn't seen it or isn't completely caught up but basically it's loads of boobs and loads of characters dying all the time.  I also really love FRIENDS, Modern Family, Gossip Girl, Orange is the New Black, and Family Guy.
Going to the cinema | Watching films is another thing I enjoy and even though it's really expensive, watching films at the cinema is the best - nachos and tango ice blasts make it what it is, although I love buying loads of cheap snacks and watching films in bed too.  I recently went to watch Legend and it was brilliant!! My favourite films are The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Wolf of Wall Street, 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless and pretty much every Disney film.
Junk food | I'm the laziest person ever, especially when it comes to food.  I can't be bothered to grill some chicken and steam some asparagus.  I want a pizza and wedges, a Nando's, a KFC and a huge tub of Ben & Jerry's cookie dough ice cream.  I do go to the gym so try to tell myself it's not bad but it really is, I'm hoping I will soon get to that stage where I realise I need to care about what I eat but at the minute I really don't, just get me a curry and a glass of wine please.

HATE
How expensive everything is | I love having money in my bank account but I also love spending money and buying new things for myself and presents for others, it's bitter sweet.  But so many things are ridiculously priced like public transport, insurance, anything leisurely but most of all, going to university.
People who cause harm to others | One thing I massively cannot stand is people who go out of their way to make someone else feel shit about themselves, or to physically abuse someone, especially those who are most vulnerable.  I hate people who discriminate and be unnecessarily horrible. Whether it's to people or to animals, it shouldn't be done, you should never call someone out on something even if you really don't like them or what it is they do/have done!! Treat people how you want to be treated. Think about how you would feel in that person's shoes. Everyone has problems so you should think about that before you start being horrible about them or whatever.
Catcalling | It makes me feel sick when dirty old men shout derogatory names at me in the street, I'm just trying to go shopping :(  It's the worst in Leicester where I go to uni, they aren't even subtle about it!  People proper stare at you and one time this man said as I walked past "ooh sexy sexy look at that ass" at first I was really scared like omg this person is going to follow me and be a weirdo but when I just typed that, I laughed out loud.
Wasps | At the minute, my car has loads of sap on it from the tree it sits underneath so is covered in wasps and loads of flying bugs, I don't want to get stung!!  I hate spiders and those moths the size of pterodactyls, so eventhough this time of year is my favourite, it's the absolute worst for the bugs.
Clowns!!! | Don't even get me started.  I don't mind those clowns you get at like, children's parties or Ronald McDonald, but the ones from horror movies with the white faces and no hair, the ones from like the 1950s who are always in horror films.  I watched this one film called Clown and that was horrifying.
Early mornings | I love my sleep so I hate it when my alarm goes off at 7am. When I'm back at uni in 3 weeks, it will be going off at 6am!!! No thank you!  I wish I was a morning person though, when I was in Majorca, the mornings were so beautiful and I loved it!  But here at home where it's always cold, I don't want to leave m bed.
Sitting in the back of a car | It makes me feel so sick!! I can do it if it's for 10/15 minutes but long journeys are a no go in the back seat of a car.
Selfishness | I could never put myself first unless I desperately had to for something. My younger sisters come first for me so I would never do something for myself over something for them. Sometimes I know you have to be selfish in order to do something right for yourself or someone else but being a horrible narcissist about it is just not what I'm about.
Unnecessary shouting | I hate when people shout instead of talking, it's one of my pet peeves, it just stresses me out.  And when people shout on the phone - you don't have to shout, they can hear you!
How everyone just sits on their phone constantly!! | I've noticed over the past few months when I've been at a train station or even when it's dead at work, everyone is on their phone and not interacting with anyone around them.  I am so guilty of this at times but recently have been trying to abandon my phone when I go out, especially on trips so I can actually take everything in rather than tweeting about being there, what's the point? So many people rely on their phones and I think it's ruining younger generations.

I'm tagging:

TATTOO TAG | pain, cost, etc.

I've been asked a few times about my tattoos so thought I would do a post showing you them all and explaining how much they hurt and cost and blah blah blah - I know everyone has a different pain tolerance but this is just my experience.
DISCLAIMER! If you don't like tattoos or disagree with them or whatever then please don't bother reading, sorry!  Also, none of my tattoos have any meaning, I just have them because they're pretty and I love all of them!

WEEKEND BREAK | Center Parcs

Woburn Forest, Bedfordshire

Over the weekend I went and stayed at Center Parcs with my number one, love you long time BFF, Monique and her family - who lovingly paid for the trip as well!  I had never been to a Center Parcs before so I was really excited and had no idea what to expect, it was so much fun and am desperate to book a trip there with Josh and my younger sisters!!  The first thing we did was go to the Subtropical swimming paradise (pictured above) and it was the most fun I've ever had at a water park - the rapids and flumes exceeded any possible expectations, they really weren't what I was expecting!  The rapids are outside, I don't know if you can just about see in the photo, and the water is heated so it's not too bad, you get really thrown about and it's so much fun, just make sure you wear sturdy swimwear.. One of the flumes called Tornado almost killed me when I plummeted to my death, backwards! You go down on this huge blow up thing either as a 4, 3 or a 2 and I experienced all 3.  The first time, we went down as a 4 with Monique's sister and her friend, I was going backwards and was completely unaware of what was going to happen until I saw Monique's face completely drop infront of me, and before I knew it I was vertically falling backwards into this kind of huge area where you pretty much just flew all over the place - it's open til 9 o clock at night so everything is all lit up and looks way cooler!  It was such a scary and thrilling experience, every time after that, I refused to go down backwards, it was terrifying!!  You can click on the map below to enlarge it and get a better look at everything you can do (and you can see the huge flume I was talking about!).

Image found on Center Parcs website

There is so much to do there, but it's quite expensive to do some of the activities.  We played badminton which I was horrendous at for the first 30 minutes because I hadn't played it for years - excuses - but it was exciting.  I regret not going in the spa because I love to relax and just do nothing, especially when it involved being pampered, but at my gym there is a spa which is no extra cost and is brilliant so atleast I still have that..  We stayed in a gorgeous lodge that fits up to 6 people, with 3 bedrooms, a bathroom and an open plan lounge-dining room-kitchen.  I saw some amazing villas which you can stay in which I would love to but I looked online and they cost almost £3,000 just for the weekend!!

The scenery was gorgeous!  I had dibbs on the window bed in mine and Monique's room so in the mornings I got to see the lovely trees and greenery outside.  The first two days were quite gloomy but the third was beautiful with blue skies and so many little ducks on the lake!  We went on a pedaloe boat so we got to relax and take it all in.  I also think that if I ever go in the summer, I would definitely hire a bike because there are so many bike paths to explore within the trees.

Another excellent - but again, expensive - aspect of the break was of course, the food.  There are a load of restaurants on site as well as a place you can order take away food from.  One night we went to this American diner called Huck's where I had this amazing cajun spiced chicken burger after having a ginormous share platter with everyone for staters which had the likes of bruschetta, king prawns and nachos on!  We also went to the Pancake House which was delicious!!! I had blueberry pancakes but unfortunately, I felt really poorly so couldn't eat much of it.  Everyone else had a savoury pancake or omlette before having a sweet one for dessert and it all looked fabulous - another reason why I need to go back ASAP.
The shopping was brutal - I spent a lot of money on gifts for people, and especially in the sweet shop!  They do the best honeycomb caramel ice cream, and there is a pick n mix which has peaches!! My FAVOURITE!!! So you basically need to save up money for activities, depending on what it is you want to do, for the shops and for food!
A few tips I would give you if you were/are planning on visiting a Center Parcs resort are:

  1. The kitchen is really good with a lot of supplies and electronics so stock up on food you can use to make good meals to save loads of money on eating out!
  2. Swimming is free and amazing so don't fret if you are finding all the other activities too expensive - you can also take your own bikes for free so you can go for bike rides, or even hikes and jogs.
  3. Don't read the menus at the restaurants when you're hungry because you will order/want too much and not be able to eat it all *hint hint* pancake stacks.
  4. And finally, just take comfy, wearable clothes, especially trainers and a hoody! I've never been so comfy in my life in my gym leggings, a baggy top and my Nikes.

The whole time I was there I just kept saying how much my sisters would love it, especially the water park!  It's really great for the whole family as well as dogs so I think next spring I'm going to be going with Josh, my younger sisters Jorja and Jasmine, my older sister Becky and her fiance Tom, and maybe even my dog Poppy and their dog Jake, how exciting!!  But I definitely want to go this winter, we usually go to Butlins but it's kind of wasted because you can't go on the beach and make full use of everything, whereas I feel like you definitely can at Center Parcs - plus I want to see their faces on that flume!!

PRODUCT REVIEW | Forever Living

I was lucky enough to try out some of Forever Living's skin care products thanks to Nichola! I used all of the products on one of my many pamper nights and I was so impressed by them all.

SKINCARE

I used this instead of the usual Garnier Micellar water and it was just as good!  It, and all of the other products, smell really lovely and fresh - just generally like they will do good for you skin.  It left my face make-up-less and feeling really soft.

Aloe Lotion - £12.23

This product is suibtable for all over the body and I definitely would use this on a daily basis!  It felt so good on my face, it's not thick or watery, it's the perfect texture and works as a moisturiser, toner, conditioner, emollient, skin pH balancer and obviously as a lotion so definitely worth the money!

Forever Aloe Scrub - £13.27

I used this scrub instead of my usual exfoliators and it was amazing! It wasn't like a facial scrub that I've used before - the textured beads sort of disintergrated as you scrub which I really liked.  Again, it left my face feeling fresh and clean, another product I would purchase!

Because I was given quite a few lotions and moisturisers, I applied each one to a different part of my body, and I put this on my forearms.  I tend to be able to tell how hydrating cremes/moisturisers are when I put them on parts of my body where I have tattoos, because they look so much bolder, and this definitley made them more lively! After a few minutes of it sinking into my skin, it felt quite matte which is another characteristic that I love.  I would consider using this on a weekly basis if I had dry, thirsty skin but it is quite pricey for a small bottle which is the only downfall, but as a product it's gorgeous.

Aloe Vera Gelly - £12.23

This thick gel left my skin feeling incredibly smooth and soft!!  I can't fault this at all and would definitely buy it.  Apparently it's really good to soothe skin irritations and I think it really would - at first it made my arm feeling quite cold which was a really interesting sensation, in the best way.  I can't stop stroking my skin where I applied it!

Another moisturising product with a matte finish which left my skin feeling so silky soft!  This lotion is much thicker than the previous two but doesn't feel heavy at all.  I would use this on a daily basis on my hands and face - before applying make up or when having a make up free day.  If you're someone who loves a good hand cream then I would strongly recommend this lotion.

I think this product is kind of like a toothpaste I'm not sure.. But I just put a tiny bit on my finger and rubbed it on my front teeth, bottom and top (I have a smilie piercing and got it all stuck in it, whoops!).  It really freshened my breath and teeth felt like how they do after I've been brushing them for 2-3 minutes!  I think you could easily get away with just using it how I did, you could pop it in your bag and use it to freshen your mouth throughout the day, and for only £7.03, you get a lot for your money if you use it this way.
HAIR CARE

Aloe-Jojoba Shampoo - £14.72

Many of the products I used are concentrated so you don't need to use a lot, and when it comes to shampoo, I usually have to use a tonne, but for this one I used a little squirt about as big as a 50p coin and it was more than enough!  It's meant to strengthen hair and nourish your scalp and honestly after one wash, I could feel the difference.  Although it's a bit on the pricey side, you only need to use a tiny amount so I think it's worth the money, especially if you're like me and have really brittle hair.

 Aloe-Jojoba Conditioning Rinse - £14.72

Another product that I can't fault - it left my hair feeling so healthy after only using a tiny amount!  I feel like I just keep repeating myself haha.  Basically after using all of the products, they left my hair and skin feeling nourished, and kind of made me feel quite calm.  After trying the Forever Living products, I am considering investing in a few of them that I feel I would use on a day-to-day basis but if you're looking for products on a budget then unfortunately you may have to miss out on these, unless you want to treat yourself.  Overall lovely products and I can't thank Nic enough for letting me try them!  I also had a look through the product books as well and the make up looks really good and affordable, apparently it's been compared to brands like MAC so definitely worth a try.
